Chinese Official Examinations (HSK)

If you already have an intermediate level of Chinese, you may consider getting certifiedby completing this test, designed and developed by the Culture and Language University of Beijing and validated by the Education Bureau of China. There are three levels: basic, elementary-intermediate and advanced. Examination announcements are made several times a year, and successful candidates are granted a certificate.

Basic level HSK is aimed at those students who have acquired basic competences in Chinese, approximately equal to 200 to 800 hours of instruction, or have had an equivalent learning experience.

Elementary- Intermediate HSK is designed for those who have attended 400 to 2,000 hours of classes, or have a comparable level of competence.

Advanced HSK targets those students who have received 3,000 or more hours of classes, or have a comparable learning experience.

HSK certifications are often used as an entry pre-requisite for engaging in official studies in China. They are also used in recruiting processes, in order to evaluate the competence of a candidate in Chinese language.
